Presented by Michael Hauptman

Sir John Monash Lecture Room, National Jewish Memorial Centre
Tel Aviv's 'White City' is a collection of over 4,000 buildings designed and constructed in the 1930s in the distinctive International Style – angular white cubes with ribbon windows, inspired by the Bauhaus and Le Corbusier. The collection is listed by UNESCO as perhaps the largest well-preserved grouping of 1930s International Style buildings.
Michael Hauptman, born in Tel Aviv, but a long time resident of Sydney, will give an illustrated talk, discussing the socio-political influences on the architecture of 1930s Tel Aviv, and some key aspects of its distinctive local interpretation. Michael is a keen enthusiast of Art Deco architecture and an active member of the 20th Century Heritage Society.
