1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Australian Jewish Historical Society ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
followed by the Earle Hoffman Memorial Lecture in Australian History
This lecture, entitled
Jewish Settlements: Dreams and Realities
will be delivered by Dr Brian Wimborne
7 February 2021 at 1:30 pm
in the Sir John Monash lecture room at the National Jewish Memorial Centre

For much of the last two thousand years, Jews have been on the move, most often to escape from persecution. No more was this more evident than in the last half of the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth centuries when pogroms in Russia and the Nazi Holocaust, threatened the very existence of Jewish life in Europe.
In Australia, plans to settle Jews escaping from the Holocaust were drawn up and received wide support. But even before then, Jewish settlements in several other countries were established, while others were no more than unfulfilled hopes.
This lecture is about the dreams and realities of Jewish settlements that did not end until the re-establishment of Israel.
