Dear Members and Friends, 

The successful completion of the new wing at the National Jewish Memorial Centre and the inauguration of the Zelman Cowen room, a dedicated Progressive worship space, mean that our community has entered an exciting new chapter in its existence. As Covid-19 restrictions begin to lift and weekly Shabbat services resume, a renewed enthusiasm can be felt.

I want so much to share this (and my) enthusiasm with you. 

On Sunday morning 26 July, members of the Progressive congregation will be gathering together for a morning spent within community.  It will be a special chance to get to know one another, consider our community’s future and to brainstorm a raft of new and meaningful approaches that will contribute to the development of the Progressive Jewish community in Canberra.

Please save this date and plan to join me.  

Ours is a small group.  As such, we must rely on the skills and interests of all our friends.  We need to work as a team, devote a portion of our time and talent to ensure that our community remains strong, is relevant, and anticipates and responds to the needs of both our current members and those who are not yet members. 

Shortly, you will be receiving a model for congregational engagement and a copy of my address to the congregation at the dedication of our new beit k’nesset.  I invite you to take a few moments and to read these brief documents and as you do so, consider how your presence, your ideas and your commitment  - the gifts of your hands and heart, can make all the difference not just for us, but for the community’s future, for our children and grandchildren.

We have built the space.  It is time to renew our spirit!
