Rabbi Bob Kaplan is the founding Director of The Centre for Community Leadership, the Intergroup and Community building division of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC), the central coordinating and resource body for 62 major Jewish organizations in the metropolitan New York area. Rabbi Bob Kaplan acts as a consultant to many community-based organizations -- Jewish and non-Jewish -- on the issue of intergroup relations, coalition and capacity building, conflict resolution, leadership development and mentoring, interracial/inter-religious relationships and combating hate crimes. Bob Kaplan likewise co-directs the New York-Jerusalem Experts Exchange.
 
Under Rabbi Kaplan’s leadership, the commission has been instrumental in developing and consulting to many community-based coalitions and community building. He likewise founded and directs YouthBridge-NY, a teen diversity Fellowship. In addition he founded the, We Are All Brooklyn, We Are the Bronx, Community Connections, Northern Manhattan and the Haitian Leadership Fellowships. All of these groups by identifying and training diverse community leadership build networks of leaders dedicated improving the quality of life for all.
Rabbi Kaplan has consulted to and trained for The United States Department of State, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom and the Jamaican and Israeli Foreign Ministries, on issues of diversity, coalition building and community organizing. He has for the past four years served as a presenter to the Doha International Centre for Interfaith Dialogue.
He presented to President Clinton’s White House Conference on Race and was a member of the Plenary Committee for the United Nations Conference, Habitat II. He served as the coalition consultant to the Black/Jewish Congressional Coalition in Washington DC.
As a member of the clergy, Rabbi Kaplan was a grief counsellor for the American Red Cross assigned to working with relief workers at the respite centre located at Ground Zero. He likewise serves as a Clergy Liaison to the Chief of the Department of the New York Police Department (NYPD).
