All Day for 1 DaysAbout the Betar Youth Movement
"Betar is revisionist Zionist youth movement that was established in by Ze’ev Jabotinsky in 1923 in Riga, Latvia. He envisioned a movement that empowered the youth to become capable and honourable pioneers of the Jewish state. The ideology is made up of several key pillars which are Zionism, Targar (activism), Hadar (respect), Sherut (mobilisation), Magen (defence), Hebrew and Hadness (monism). Betar spread throughout Europe and helped to unite the Jewish youth in the diaspora during times of persecution.
Betar Australia was established in 1924 just one year after Riga. There are currently Betar Maozim in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane each of which runs regular activities and camps. While the movement has changed throughout the years, we maintain a strong emphasis on the ideologies core ethical and zionistic values. Our activities instil a sense of Jewish identity through the unique Jewish community that Betar supports. We affirm all streams of Judaism, while teaching our chanichim about the importance of activism and respect as well as Israeli history, culture and contemporary politics.
